Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall score, we awarded this facility a grade of A+ for the area of inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Our nursing rating considers several factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as good measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also was awarded favorable long-term care scores in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a grade of B+. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 76.190475 percent of its residents. This is slightly below what we anticipated. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.53 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our fourth category, we awarded this facility a grade of D in the area of short-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category grade. Of course, this score pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Short-term care scores are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 39.6 percent of its patients returning home.
