Long-term Care Quality
Although this nursing home's overall grade was horrible, it didn't perform quite as poorly in the area of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that area, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to spare its otherwise poor profile. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 95.792076 percent of its residents, which is better than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. When computing a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a grade of just D for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. You should be most cautious when considering a facility that has severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This particular nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, we need to point out that this place received significant government fines recently of over $100,000. This typically suggests that a nursing home's poor performance spanned multiple years.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final category, this facility didn't perform well here either. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Short-term care grades are typically employed to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. With a grade of this caliber in this category, we were not stunned to learn this nursing home was well below average in two of the key staffing metrics we looked at. The nursing home supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
