Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an A in our long-term care category. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. It does not appear that this nursing home provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. The nursing rating consists of many datapoints, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Kansas in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a resident more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Moving on our next category, this facility received a strong short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in this category. Short-term care ratings are crucial for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Lastly, we wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them a B+ in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. It doesn't look like we were able to find deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
