Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we wanted to note its decent government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded it a relatively respectable grade of B- in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Our nursing rating consists of quite a few factors, but the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provides 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is better than average. In calculating our scores, we apply more weight to hours performed by more highly skilled nurses such as registered nurses. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

The next most favorable area we gave this facility in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Long-term care scores are pivotal for patients looking for non-healthcare services such as personal care. While we determined this nursing home has an above average quantity of nursing hours provided by nurses and other nursing staff, we found its vaccine statistics to be somewhat below average. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 90 percent of its residents. This is one statistic we'd like to see this facility bring up. Nevertheless, this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.12 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly lower hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.

The next area we rated was short-term care. We gave it a C in that category. This is a decent grade in this area. In our short-term care grade, we attempt to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
