Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with a strong overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for inspections. Our inspection grades are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its high-end profile, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, it received a grade of A- in the category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. The nursing category assesses quite a few subcategories, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our fourth area, this facility also performed admirably in the short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for this category. This rounded out a very impressive profile. In crafting these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
