Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection score. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility an A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to this facility's list of strengths, it also was given a first-rate long-term care score. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.689766 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. Our nursing score looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the fourth area, this nursing home received an acceptable short-term care grade. Even though this wasn't quite as dominant as a few of its other scores, this is truly not a terrible score. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is frequently a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
