Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of C for our long-term care rating. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.45869 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

As it turns out, its inspection reports were not the source of this nursing home's abysmal overall grade. It received a C in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates that it avoided the more serious categories of deficiencies. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were surprised to find that this nursing home also excelled in nursing. In fact, we awarded it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest grades. When determining a facility's nursing score, we weigh the number of hours nurses are caring for residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is far below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we analyzed was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a very poor grade. With our short-term care score, we strive to create a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a grade of this caliber for this area, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home was well below average in several staffing figures we assess. The nursing home offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below the national average.
