Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection grades are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to this facility's list of achievements, it also received a high-end short-term care grade. We gave them a strong grade of A- in this area. Our short-term care grades are presumably more critical for people in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. We assessed the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning residents even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care. In this category, we awarded this facility an acceptable grade of B-. This is this facility's weakest category. With our long-term care assessment, we focus more on the amount of services offered by a facility, as well as a series of quality metrics. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinates 99.135445 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
