Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We also wanted to point out that this facility has received nearly flawless government inspections recently. We awarded them an A in this area. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to note the fact that this facility received a top-shelf score of A in our long-term care area. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.53301 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. In calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the amount of time nurses commit to patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

The last area we analyzed was short-term care. In this category, we awarded this facility a favorable grade of B. In forming our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
