Long-term Care Quality
This facility fared well in our long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our highest scores. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 82.27147 percent of its residents. This is a few points lower than we expected but still a decent percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated is nursing. For this category, we awarded this facility a C. There are a host of criteria within this grade. Many of the factors are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving patients at least once a day.
