Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home also didn't fare too badly in the category of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C in that area, which ended up being among its higher scores. In the category of long-term care, we analyze the quantity of services provided by a facility, rather than more healthcare-oriented services. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home also didn't perform terribly in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is another one its better scores. Our nursing rating analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Although this place didn't really impress in terms of the quantity of nursing care provided, it surprisingly performed admirably in a few of our quality measures. In fact, it was above average in two of the major areas we look at, with favorable scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are good indicators of the quality of nursing care available since many bed sores and falls can be avoided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we rated was short-term care, which proved to be a weak spot for this nursing home. We awarded this facility a grade of just D in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are thought to be most meaningful for residents needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Based on its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this place was subpar in terms of its quantity of registered nurse hours provided to its residents. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well in this area. In fact, we found that just 44.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
