Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this facility's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded just a D in this area. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.42029 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our last category, this facility did not perform well here either. Due to a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this is really as terrible as it gets. Our short-term care grade is typically used to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. To provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. With a grade of this caliber in this category, we were not shocked to learn this nursing home was well below average in many staffing metrics we focus on. The nursing home provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.5 percent of its residents returning home.
