In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities performed better in this category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this area generally have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This facility's long-term care score ended up being one of its higher scores. The facility was awarded a grade of B- in this area. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.60614 percent of its patients, which is a bit below what we expected. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.54 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this number may be skewed for some facilities due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. In fact, we gave this facility an D. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home averages 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. This nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign in light of the fact that many bed sores could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing score quite a bit.

The final area we rated is short-term care, which proved to be a weak spot for this nursing home. We awarded this facility a grade of just D for the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. The last item we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 39.4 percent of its patients returning home.
