Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other strengths is its superb long-term care score. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a score of A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.4709 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing rating consists of a handful of datapoints, however, the primary consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving residents more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we graded was short-term care, which was this facility's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. However, you should not assess this facility based only on one weak category, since it had some superb scores in other categories. In computing our short-term care grades, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This area is considered to be a reliable assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
