Registered Staff Hours
Although we gave this place a bad overall score, we gave it a somewhat respectable score in the area of inspections, where we gave it a grade of B-. This was certainly better than its other category grades. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its next highest category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is a respectable grade. In forming our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Does this page answer your questions about Pruitthealth-Raleigh?
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. The nursing grade considers a variety of factors. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was long-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this facility a D in this area. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 85.06944 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
