Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a quality facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection score. In fact, inspections is its best category grade. In this category, we awarded it an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received a favorable short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B+. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. When determining our nursing grades, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care. We gave this nursing home a D in our long-term care category, leaving this as its weakest category. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
