While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. Nursing grades are largely associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care offered.

This nursing home's next highest area ended up being short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is often a fair assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The real question is whether this also affected quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Moving on to the fourth area, this facility really did not fare well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this was this nursing home's weakest area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home gave the vaccine to a relatively low 83.0827 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
