One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an impressive inspection rating. Inspections is its best category. In this category, we gave it an A. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. This facility fared well in the area of short-term care. As a result, we awarded it a score of A for that category, which happens to be one of our better scores. This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this subcategory. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving residents more frequently.

The next area we rated is long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for our long-term care category, leaving this as its weakest grade. Facilities that do not score well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 93.51351 percent of its patients, which is somewhat less than we were hoping for. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
