Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave it an A+. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we awarded it a first-rate long-term care score. Indeed, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 98.97611 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's third highest category was short-term care. However, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. Our short-term care grade is generally used to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services To have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility's weakest area is nursing, which is the final area we scored. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area. Even with a few solid grades in other areas, this score is still disappointing so we would like to to make a note of it. Our nursing score assesses quite a few data points, but the primary one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. In addition to its below average nursing hours, this facility also earned suboptimal marks in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We found that more of this nursing home's patients experienced falls which led to major injury. We believe that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing grade.
