Short-term Care Quality
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received an excellent short-term care rating. In fact, we gave it an A in that category. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. Nursing grades are mostly associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the fourth area, this nursing home was given a very strong long-term care grade. We awarded it a B+ in this category, finishing off one of our better report cards. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 63.2 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is slightly lower than we anticipated but still a respectable figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
