Although this facility's overall grade wasn't a highlight, it earned a very good score in the category of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for that category, which is a solid score. This one of its few redeeming features. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

This nursing home's second highest area ended up being its long-term care grade, where it received a B-. In computing our long-term care scores, we look at the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's residents. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the average nursing home. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Nursing ratings are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based measures.
