While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In addition, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B in our long-term care category. This is one of our better scores. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 98.77676 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 1.22 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a substantially better hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.

This facility was awarded its next best category score in the area of short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a B- in this area, which is a respectable score. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the country with 55.6 percent of its patients returning home.

The next area we scored is nursing. It received an abysmal F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. This is obviously a major concern. We scrutinized the licensure of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
