Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great facility overall, it also earned A+ inspections in recent years. Its inspections were nearly flawless. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to this nursing home's list of achievements, it also was awarded a top-shelf long-term care score. We awarded them a strong grade of A- in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.0099 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to the next area, this nursing home also earned a grade of B for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average grade in this area. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Moving on to the next area, this nursing home was given an acceptable nursing grade. Although this wasn't as impressive as some of its other category grades, this is truly not a terrible score. The nursing score features numerous factors. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat discouraging figure which is well below the national average. Finally, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percent of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care.
