Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid inspections in recent years. We gave it a respectable grade of B in this area, which is much better than its overall grade. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care grade appears to be one of its best features. The facility was awarded a B- in this area. Long-term care scores are important for patients in need of non-healthcare services such as personal care. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The third highest area we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The real question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below average.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing, was this nursing home's weakest category. We gave this facility a D in this category. The nursing grade weighs quite a few subcategories, however, the paramount consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
