Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received a much better grade for long-term care than it did overall. we gave it one of our best grades in that area with an A-. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to really impressive nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination record is first-rate as well. Indeed, this facility vaccinated 97.22922 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Although it had 1.78 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was better than the majority of nursing homes since it had some more complex patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's higher category grades came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B+. It actually fared better than most facilities in this category. In our short-term care category, we try to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents. It provided about 1.5 times as much care per resident from both of these care providers than the typical facility provided. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another reason we rated this facility so highly is that it earned an A+ nursing rating. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides an incredible 7.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls resulting in serious injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home the state. Avoiding serious falls is generally an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are employed.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

The final category we assessed is inspections. Unfortunately, we were surprised to find that this facility received such a poor inspection grade. We gave it a just D in this area. This score is not on par with some of this nursing home's other category grades. Inspection scores relate to a facility's inspection reports. Since this information is collected by government inspectors, we tend to weight it pretty heavily. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed a deficiency by CMS. We were relieved to find that it was not in one of the categories that suggest that it caused a threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, this facility also was assessed large government fines in recent years.
