Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We gave this facility one of our better scores in nursing, with a grade of A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. The nursing grade consists of quite a few datapoints, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided 0.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received a strong short-term care score. Indeed, we gave it a B+ in that category, which is one of our better. In forming our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility's inspection rating was yet another category grade that was superior to the facility's overall grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. Our inspection scores are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we rated was long-term care, is this nursing home's worst category. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. This is one of just a few weak points of a strong profile. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this facility administered the vaccine to just 76.31579 percent of its patients, which is a bit of a concern. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
