Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's next highest category was short-term care, but even there it received a grade of just D in that category. This turns out to be a well below average score. In computing these short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the data we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. There are a number of criteria within this grade. Many of the datapoints are tied to nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Turning to our final area, this facility really didn't perform well in this category either. Due to a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the vaccine to just 81.88976 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
