Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that area, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care grade and that actually wound up as its next best category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 56.52174 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. The nursing rating includes a handful of datapoints, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This number is significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst area is short-term care, which is the last area we assessed. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of just D. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Based on its score in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 4.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
