Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We want to point out that this place received a much better grade for long-term care than it did overall. In fact, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.139534 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B+. When calculating our nursing ratings, we assess both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Turning to our inspection category, it appears this nursing home has received respectable inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a B- in this category. Inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we assessed is short-term care. We awarded it a C in that category. This is not a bad grade in this area. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. It does not look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 3.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
