Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We awarded this place one of our better grades in the area of long-term care, where it received an A-. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.57806 percent of its residents. This is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We also want to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this area. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. There are many criteria included in this area. Many of these criteria are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this area. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the final category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for short-term care. This was the nursing home's least impressive category grade. Sadly, this score hurt the facility's overall profile to a certain degree. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.7 percent of its patients returning home.
