Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A-. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many severe deficiencies flagged. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate deficiency data for this facility. We would like to have more information about this facility. Without having the deficiency data, it is challenging to assess this nursing home in the inspections category.
Long-term Care Quality
The next most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a B-. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care. This facility's received a poor short-term care grade where it was given a lowly F. Short-term care scores are meaningful for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its score in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we analyzed is nursing. This facility received a rock bottom grade of F in that category. There are a host of data points included in this category. Most of the data points reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This particular place offered a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This statistic is far below the national average. This nursing home also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
