Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of A for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with a list of deficiencies flagged. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's long-term care rating is one of its higher grades. The facility was awarded a C in this category. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility provided the vaccine to only 89.952156 percent of its residents, which is a bit of a concern. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Although it had 2.12 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not as bad.
Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home just a D for our short-term care grade. This is not a score to write home about. With our short-term care grade, we endeavor to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Considering its abysmal grade in this category, we were not shocked to discover that this facility offers substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 42.8 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing, in which this facility was given a bottom of the barrel score in this area as well. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is definitely very concerning. Our nursing grade weighs a variety of factors. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. On top of rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this place also had poor scores in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in both of these data points. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
