Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the impressive quantity of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination statistics. By way of example, this facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to 98.75777 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. The last statistic we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 1.99 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received a virtually flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with a score of A+. This was one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s. Inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. It doesn't appear that we have deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Our nursing rating considers a host of datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the better totals we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With below five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Kentucky in this category. This is typically an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and a system of turning patients more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is short-term care, in which this facility was awarded a grade of B-. Although this wound up being its lowest category rating, this is still not a major area of concern. In our short-term care category, we attempt to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that just 26 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
