Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home received a strong overall grade as discussed above, but we especially wanted to point out its excellent nursing score. We awarded them an A- in this category. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses working for the facility, as well as the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility was given strong marks in the category of short-term care as well. Consequently, we awarded it one of our best scores in that area with a score of A-. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is more often than not a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility also received impressive inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 12 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A few minor dings are not something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's worst category was long-term care, which is the final area we scored. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area. Even with some strong scores in other categories, this grade is still somewhat alarming so we felt obligated to make a note of it. For residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.870056 percent of its residents, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
