Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of B+ for our inspections category. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with too many deficiencies flagged. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to note that this facility received strong short-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in that category, with a B. This proved to be the nursing home's second best score. Our short-term care grades are probably more meaningful for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. It performed better than most facilities in this area with 53.4 percent of its residents returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing grades are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a very poor score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.43503 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
