To go along with its strong overall score, we awarded this facility an A for our short-term care grade. Short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

In addition, this facility earned excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better grades in that area, with an A-. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home received 10 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. There are numerous factors included in this grade. Most of the factors relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Washington in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving patients even once per day.

The next area we looked at was long-term care. This facility was awarded a very good long-term care score this year, with a B-. Although this isn't as dominant as many of its other category grades, this is still a respectable grade in this category. For residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.2353 percent of its residents. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
