Short-term Care Quality
We also found that this nursing home excelled at short-term care. We gave them an A+ in this area. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ nursing grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+ category grades. Our nursing rating includes several factors, however, the paramount consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections
Amazingly, we also awarded this nursing home yet another A+ in the area of inspections. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. Unfortunately, it does not appear that we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Without deficiency related data for this nursing home, it ended up being challenging to assess it in the area of inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed was long-term care. This facility was awarded an impressive nursing grade this year, with a B. Although this was not quite as good as a few of its other category grades, this is still one of our more favorable scores in that category. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the data points we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
