Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next most favorable score was short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. As you might expect, we learned that this facility provides far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. The nursing score features many factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth area, this nursing home really did not perform very well here either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
