Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in this category with an A. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility was given its next most favorable category score in the category of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in this area, which is a respectable score. In calculating our long-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's personal care services. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 99.67105 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we analyzed is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a decent grade of C. In computing these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The last item we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the fourth category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D in our nursing category. This was the facility's weakest category rating. Our nursing grade is based on several data points. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This statistic is well below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
