Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although we didn't give this nursing home a good overall score, we did give it a strong grade in the area of inspections, where it received a B+. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility also received a very impressive nursing score. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we analyzed was short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a solid grade of C. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 40.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we graded was long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a very poor grade. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 93.10345 percent of its patients, which is slightly below what we expected. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.43 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
