Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given an A+ for its short-term care grade. With our short-term care category, we try to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This facility provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we looked at. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 83.5 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. When determining our nursing scores, we weigh both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided 7.6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is among the more impressive totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by these figures. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls resulting in serious injury, this facility performed as well as any facility the nation.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final category we rated, this nursing home received a very favorable grade of A- in our long-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home completed a straight A report card. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. Although we determined this facility has an above average amount of nursing care provided by nurses aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be a bit low. This facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 52.631577 percent of its patients. This is one figure we would really like to see this nursing home improve on. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
