Facility Inspections
To pair with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for our inspection category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility fared well in our short-term care category. As a result, we gave it a grade of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our better grades. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This facility is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 60.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this nursing home also earned a score of B for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this category. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't take any chances. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the final category, this nursing home received a respectable nursing grade. Even though this is not as impressive as a few of its other grades, this is still not a major area of concern. The nursing grade includes quite a few components, but the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing scores also weigh quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed above average in this area. This is usually a good indicator of how carefully a nursing home's nursing staff is tending to its patients. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.
