This nursing home really excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. If it was not for this category, this nursing home's overall grade would have been much lower. In determining these short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our inspections rating. This is a very respectable nursing score. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. The nursing rating weighs many factors, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning residents more frequently.

The last category we assessed is long-term care, was this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this category. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate this place's vaccination data. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
