Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category, where it received an A+. Our short-term care scores are considered to be more meaningful for those requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home is substantially above the national average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. In fact, it provided about 50% more care per resident from both of these care providers than the average facility provided. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Colorado in this area with 64.5 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Turning to inspections, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's government inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This place boasts a really impressive 4.8 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the country in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we scored is long-term care, in which this nursing home received a grade of C. Even though this wound up being its lowest category grade, this is still not a poor grade. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility provided information on its vaccination levels. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
