Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a quality facility overall, this nursing home really excelled at short-term care, where it earned an impressive grade of A-. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is frequently a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities next most favorable category was long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack grade in this category. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinates 96.53465 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next area we assessed was nursing. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this area. We analyzed the levels of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses were with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Although this place didn't have as many nursing hours as many of the other facilities we assessed, it was still better than average in the area of avoiding major falls. This is generally an indicator of how carefully a facility's nursing staff is tending to its patients. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses and safety protocols are in place.
