Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in this area with an A-. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this nursing home's better category grades was in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 85 percent of its residents. This is a bit below what we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of D. Our nursing rating analyzes many components, however, the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we rated is short-term care, which ended up being this facility's least impressive category. We gave this facility a grade of D in this area. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This category is considered to be a fair assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With a grade this poor for this category, we were not surprised to discover this place was below average in many staffing metrics we looked at. The nursing home offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.
