Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with an A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid places that had a long list of severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The second best area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care grade. This is not an impressive grade. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Given its score in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. In calculating our nursing grades, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To pair with its below average totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home had really bad scores in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. For starters, we looked at the percentage of patients sustaining falls which led to serious injury. This facility was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is concerning in light of the fact that so many falls could likely be avoided with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of receiving a poor nursing score.
