Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave it an A-. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We weighed the skill-level of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses were with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we looked at was short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B-. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we graded is long-term care, which is this facility's weakest area. We gave this facility a grade of D in that area. Sadly, this score hurt the nursing home's overall grade to a certain degree. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinates 97.72727 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
