Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also awarded this nursing home an impressive grade in long-term care. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our better scores. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.44752 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this facility a respectable score in the area of short-term care, with a grade of C. Short-term care grades are important for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It does not look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to the last area, we gave this facility a D for our nursing category. This is the facility's worst category rating. Sadly, this category pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Our nursing score is based on several components, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
