To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for inspections. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

This facility truly excelled in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Very few facilities performed more favorably in this area. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This turned out to be more of a strength for this nursing home. It fared as well as just about any facility in Illinois with 65.6 percent of its patients returning home.

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Nursing grades are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Historical

The final category we graded was long-term care, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in this area. However, you should not judge this facility solely on one weak area, since it received a few excellent grades in other areas. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 97.849464 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.98 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
