Nurse Quality
On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score is mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular facility provided 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This was one of the better totals we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With below 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more positive scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. In calculating our short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 35.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is long-term care, where this nursing home was given a B. While this ended up being its worst category grade, this is still a quality rating. Facilities that excel in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 96.21212 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.59 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
