We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with a grade of A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received a positive score in our long-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B+ in that area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. This place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Although it had 1.81 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes due to it having more complex patients.

Short-term Care Quality
Our next category we assessed is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given an F. Short-term care ratings are crucial for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the data we looked at. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This was not a strength either for this facility. We found that just 49.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is below average.
This facility's least impressive area was nursing, which is the last category we assessed. It received an abysmal F for this area. Even with several solid grades in other areas, this grade is still of a concern so we would like to to make sure you are aware. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is far below the national average. On top of receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic really pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
